Execution of Guru Tegh Bahadur under Aurangzeb (1675 CE)
Historical court records and chronicles (Maʾāsir-i ʿĀlamgīrī and Siyar al-Mutaʾakhkhirīn) document the 1675 CE imprisonment of Guru Tegh Bahadur (the 9th Sikh Guru) in Delhi for refusing conversion to Islam, the public execution of his disciples under extreme torture (Bhai Mati Das sawed alive, Bhai Dayala boiled alive), followed by the public beheading of the Guru at Chandni Chowk under the orders of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb.
Siyar al-Muta'akhkhirin of Ghulam Husain Khan (trans. Raymond, Calcutta, 1789), Vol. 1, pp. 401–402
Tegh Bahadur was gathering adherents and defying the imperial decrees. Aurangzeb ordered that he be arrested and brought to the capital, Shahjahanabad. He was offered the choice between embracing Islam or facing death; when he steadfastly refused to abandon his faith, the Emperor ordered that he be publicly beheaded in the marketplace after his principal companions were put to death.
It was the steadfast imperial policy of Sultan Alamgir [Aurangzeb] to elevate the symbols of Islam, uproot all forms of heresy and polytheism, and severely punish anyone who refused submission to the noble Shari'ah.

The execution of Guru Tegh Bahadur in November 1675 at Chandni Chowk, Delhi, remains one of the defining historical confrontations over religious freedom and imperial coercion in the Mughal Empire. Contemporary Persian chronicles, including the Khulasat-ut-Tawarikh of Sujan Rai Bhandari and later British historical analyses, record that Guru Tegh Bahadur was approached by Kashmiri Pandits seeking protection against forced conversions ordered by Mughal governor Iftikhar Khan. Guru Tegh Bahadur's martyrdom prompted his son and successor, Guru Gobind Singh, to formally institute the Khalsa brotherhood in 1699, permanently transforming Sikhism into a martial faith vowed to resist imperial tyranny.
